Good Evening!
Systems, automation, and passive income… all buzzwords you hear in business, particularly marketing.
Systems are made out to be these magic things you put in place that solve all your problems.
Automation is viewed similarly but it usually makes you envision big diagrams of funnels and flowcharts with pieces of software running your business.
Passive income is viewed as sitting on a beach while money just roles into your bank account.
They are all over hyped and relied on… but they are also critical to not only a profiitable business, but to your sanity.
I will cover each of them in more depth in the future, but I wanted to touch on it now.
I work pretty hard and put in a lot of hours, I rarely take a day off, often mock people that do (though I am working on that),and think “work life balance” is an excuse to work less.
But I took most of today off, and I will be taking most of tomorrow off as well.
The only work I did today was sending some payments, checking in on support tickets, and send this email (though I don’t consider this work really… I just feel like Doogie Howser at the end of and episode when I write these… anyone under 30 can Google that ).
While my business was still on my mind… I wasn’t worried about it. I knew my excellent team would handle all their responsibilities through the systems that have been put in place, I knew emails and social media would automate, sales would come through, and everything would be ok.
In some ways I am irrelevant to my business outside of pointing in a direction, and expecting everyone to take us there.
See that’s what separates a business owner, from someone that is self employed.
A business owner runs the business, makes some key decisions, and has a vision for where it is all going.
Someone that is self employed finds work, does the work, and gets paid.
Neither is wrong, its a matter of preference… but to truly be a business owner you need systems, automation, and passive income that you don’t have to worry about, if you don’t have those, there is an upper limit to how far you can grow and scale, and how many days you can take to buy some presents, have a decent dinner, and go watch Star Wars.
Are you a business owner? Or are you self employed?
Let me know in the Profiit Academy Daily Facebook group.
Talk to you tomorrow.
Best,
