Single Point Of Failure

Good Evening,

A big part of managing your business is risk assessment.
Thinking about things that could go wrong and cripple or end your business, and finding ways to prevent them or minimize them.
It could be a single piece of technology that, if it broke, would also break your business.

A lot of the online world experienced this a few months ago when Cloudflare went down and took half the internet with it.

It could be a key employee that does such a great job and is responsible for so many things you have become to reliant on them and wouldn’t know how to do what they do if they left or were made unable to work.

It could be relying on a particular payment processor.
It could even be you… if you suddenly broke an arm, or had to have eye surgery, or whatever… would that put you out of business?

These are things I spend a lot of my time managing and planning for, particularly recently.

Look at your business… is there anything that is a single point of failure?
Most people reading this are SEOs… if Google went away tomorrow how long could your business last?

So really spend some time on this. Identify the problem areas, and come up with a contingency for what you will do if they ever stop working… it could mean the difference between evolution, and extinction.

Talk to you tomorrow.

Best,
CMW
