Good Evening!
There is a tactic in affiliate marketing called launch jacking. Basically you find a product that is coming out in the future, and use the fact that there is no competition at present to rank for it easily, then when it launches and people start searching for it you can hijack the traffic for it because you are ranked well, and make yourself some commission. I am not really a fan of this model. Its a never ending cycle of promotion, you aren’t promoting tested products and offers, and it is kind of crappy to the product creator and other affiliates since you are just using a loophole and not doing any real marketing.
Having said that I did recently stumble on something I am calling “name jacking”. About a year ago I did a livestream/interview with my friend Iman Shafiei on both Facebook and YouTube. I didn’t think much of it, but I made a blog post etc… out of it as well for the sake of content re-purposing (which we will talk about some other time). Well since there was no competition for his name in YouTube or Google (he’s never made much content, and his name is uncommon) my video and blog post both rank well for it. Which normally isn’t helpful… but over the last couple of months Iman’s business has exploded. He’s running ads that get millions of views to promote his current business. The effect of this is that my interview with him both the video and the blog post, have gotten a ton more engagement and views than they normally do. By the hundreds and thousands.
So I went ahead and monetized the video with affiliate links etc… and am taking advantage of the new found engagement and traffic. I hijacked his name and am sucking up some sweet affiliate commissions as a result. I am interviewing him again on Thursday in an attempt to rank for his name and the name of his program, as well as provide some great value for the people that watch (Iman is always an interesting interview). So you see how versatile and powerful this is right? You build good will (people love to be interviewed), you create some great content, and if you optimize it right you end up with something than can bring you ad revenue or sales. Think about ways you can leverage this for your business.
Create some content, do some outreach, rank some videos/posts, ethically hijack people’s name/business names and make yourself some Profiit.
Best,
CMW
