Managing your environment…

Managing your environment...

Good Afternoon!

So as I have mentioned before I like to listen to a single song on repeat, all day, while I work to help get me into a rhythm.

This is on my mind today because earlier I made a video for Superstar SEO Academy… and forgot to turn it off so you could hear it in the background. Oops!

Then when I went to lunch I heard someone listening to political talk radio, which I absolutely can’t stand. I used to work as the IT department for a business that sold 2 way radios and everyone there listened to this drivel all day long… I hated it and I never got anything done.

This lead me to think about other work environments I have had and how I couldn’t control them, and now I can and it is something I think I have gotten to where I take for granted.

Optimizing your work environment is absolutely key to getting the most out of your work hours.

Managing your environment...
Everyone is different in this regard. Some people are fine working on a laptop in Starbucks, or at poolside. Some people like a warm office, others like it cold.

You get the idea… you have to be self actualized enough to know what will and will not work for you.

That said there are some general principles you need to consider that apply to everyone:

  • Temperature control… if you are too hot or too cold you won’t be able to focus
  • Noise control. If you prefer a quiet environment and it is noisy your Profiit will suffer
  • Light levels. Whether you like it dim or bright you need to have control over this.
  • Work tools. For most of the people reading this that means a computer. I prefer a desktop with multiple monitors, but you need to be able to customize this to your needs and preferences.
  • Stuff you like… being able to surround yourself with pictures, or chachkas you like is key to keep you in a good mood.

Those are just a few things to consider… you also need to be able to be flexible and work in a non perfect environment when the situation calls for it (like recording a training video).

Take an hour and analyze your work environment and ask what you could do to optimize it perfectly for you.

This can really turn a business around.

Talk to you tomorrow.

Best,
CMW
