Getting Paid

Good Evening,

“If you’re good at something never do it for free” – The Joker

I give away a lot of stuff.

Information, time, work and many other things.

This is partly just my nature but also partly due to my larger philosophy on the way the world should be (but that is a conversation for a different venue).

But its not great for business for a few reasons.

The obvious being that you have to get paid in order for business to work

Another is that, the more you give away, the less people value what you offer. For example my Kung Fu teacher tried to teach for free when he started… and no one enrolled. When he started charging the school started to grow.

It is how our brains our wired. Everything we do is based on risk/reward… and if we aren’t getting the reward we will eventually stop taking the risk

Unfortunately there are many people in the world that have gotten in the habit of trying to have the reward without first taking the risk… or more specifically they want a product or service and won’t pay for it.

I have had members of my team spend the last 10 days fighting with people to pay small amounts of money.

Another business owner friend of mine has 10s of thousands of dollars that people are just like “nah. Not going to pay”.

Its an epidemic.

And in my case at least, its my fault.

I didn’t have strong policies in place for taking payment, I let people slide at times, and sometimes just gave away things that I shouldn’t have, largely on small sums of money (that added up turn into a bag of lettuce over time)

The point I am trying to make here is this; there is information you can give away for free, and you should.

But don’t give away things of too much value. Don’t let people get away without paying, and make sure you are getting what you are worth.

Make sure you get paid.

Make sure your Profiit.

You deserve it.

Talk to you tomorrow.

Best,
CMW
