Balance

Good Afternoon!

First… check out the intro jingle I had made for the Profiit Academy podcast/livestream! I’m very happy with it.

So today is Saturday and I thought this would be a good time to talk about balance. “Work life balance” is something of a cliche that people like to throw around… usually to justify not working. So many people I know have told me “You have to have work life balance or you are going to burn out!” before they head off to jobs they hate, making less money than they want to make, and spend their entire weekend doing nothing.

For years I resented that, especially when they would tell me I was “lucky” to have the freedom I have and do what I do.

But here’s The Thing…

..they are actually right. At least partially. I spend a lot of time examining what highly successful people do and I realized that people that are far more successful than I am right now also weren’t putting in the kind of time that I was. They also weren’t putting in as little time as my slacker friends.

One thing that most of them had in common was that they had found the right balance of activities. There is your odd Gary V. obsessive (though he knows an awful lot about football to work as much as he claims to) but overall most of them keep a regular 12 hour day or so. I hadn’t been for years… and it started to take its toll. I was burned out physically and mentally, stressed, depressed, and not only was I not getting anymore work done the quality of work I was putting out was not good enough.

So I made changes.
• I forced myself to work a somewhat regular schedule
• Got an office which forced me to get up, get dressed and “go into work”
• I took a vacation
• I changed my diet
• I started taking karate (mostly so I had a couple hours where I didn’t have to think about work, or be in charge)
• And I started having at least one day a week where I did very little work.

And the results have been incredible. Not only have both my businesses seen major growth and progress, I feel a lot better, and I like to think the quality of work I do and decisions I make has improved dramatically. Nature is instructive. One of the main things the human body does is try to find balance. If you are walking down some stairs and you miss one, the first thing you try to do is regain your balance. You don’t even think about it.

On a cellular level the body will do whatever it needs to do in order to maintain pH balance in the body. So the moral of the story here is… …work hard. Be better than other people that are doing what you do. Put in the work. Enjoy the work… …but also take care of yourself.

If you want to make Profiit in your business and your life you need to find the right balance. What is an area of your business or life that is out of balance, and what will you do to fix it? Let me know in the Profiit Academy Facebook group.

Talk to you tomorrow.

Best,
