My cat taught me a valuable business lesson…

Good morning Profiit Academy

I am a cat person. Its true. Dogs are ok and all, but cats are my favorite… I actually have 2 of them.

A while back one of my customers on Legiit was so happy with the counsel I gave him about his pet food site that he sent me some organic liver snap cat treats.

Yesterday I decided to give some to my cat. I went and got them, and opened the bottle and went over to where he was… …and he ran and hid. So without thinking I kept the treats with me and went back to work… …a few minutes later he ran over to me and started begging for a treat.

It occurred to me it was because I had what he wanted… and I wasn’t chasing him.

Business Savant?

So what does any of that have to do with business? Well let me ask you this… how many emails, phone calls, LinkedIn messages etc… do you get from people that have taken zero time to get to know you, your business or your needs, but are chasing after you with their product or service they have for sale?

If you are anything like me… probably a lot. The reverse is often true also… when you want to buy something, you do some research and go to whoever has it.

That’s kinda of how I like to position myself in business. Treat people well, get them to know like and trust you by being a good person, find out what they want and need… then give it to them when they are ready for it.

Don’t be the hungry little kitten begging for a treat… be the person holding the treats that people want. (I may have overextended the metaphor there, so hopefully that made sense) Just to clear things up a bit… I am in no way saying don’t sell. I sell every day and you should too.

What I am saying is don’t go chasing after people, forcing your offer on them, looking desperate, and have law of averages be your only hope for making a sale. Instead define a customer avatar, figure out who your audience is, and what you can solve for them, make sure they know you are one of the good guys or gals, present them with an offer, and when they are ready you will have them eating out of your hand.

If you have any questions or want to know how you can better present your offer ask away in the Profiit Academy Facebook group.

Talk to you tomorrow.

Best,
CMW
